I will define doing good as anything that we do unto others and ourselves, which gives glory to God. Doing good is a godly act of kindness which demonstrates the heart, love, and goodness of God unto mankind. To do good, is to do what Jesus would do. Acts 10:38 “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him”.
James 1:27 “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world”. It is crucial that we do good unto others because this pleases God immensely. When we endeavour to do good despite our situations or circumstances, hurt or pain; this sends a great message to all that we are Children of God and are called according to His divine purpose.
We must be very prudent and do good because Jesus is coming very soon, and we must begin to build our treasures in Heaven. Ephesians 5:16 “Redeem the time for the hour is near and the days are evil”. God does not joke with two groups of people namely (a) Soul Winners (b) the Cheerful Giver (One whose heart is in his/her giving). God cherishes and protect them unfailingly. God supplies all their needs and He does not withhold any good thing from them.
To do good works, we need the wisdom of God and the guidance of the Holy Spirit always, so that we do not give amiss. One crucial thing to note about giving is this: It is all about our intentions at which we give to God and to others. E.g. The rich men and the poor widow gave their offerings in the temple, but with different intentions. Jesus was more pleased with the poor widow’s offering because she gave with all her heart, soul and might unlike the rich men who gave with pride, arrogance and half-heartedly.
